How to use this calculator
- Enter a start date and an end date.
- Tick 'Include the end date' if both the first and last day should count (for example, a leave period counted in days).
- Read the total days, weekdays, weeks and the years-months-days breakdown.
The formula
The count uses whole calendar dates, so daylight-saving changes do not affect it. Weekdays exclude Saturdays and Sundays only; public holidays are not removed because they differ by country and region.
Worked example
January 1, 2026 to December 25, 2026
- January has 31 days, so January 1, 2026 → February 1, 2026 is 31 days.
- The full months February through November add 28 + 31 + 30 + 31 + 30 + 31 + 31 + 30 + 31 + 30 = 303 days, reaching December 1, 2026 after 334 days.
- December 1, 2026 → December 25, 2026 adds 24 days: 334 + 24 = 358 days.
- Counting December 25, 2026 itself gives 359.
These are the default dates above.
Frequently asked questions
Does the count include the start date?
The standard count is the difference between the dates: the start date is counted and the end date is not. Tick the box to include both.
How many weekdays are in November 2026?
21. Enter November 1, 2026 and November 30, 2026 and include the end date.
Are holidays excluded from weekdays?
No. Only Saturdays and Sundays are excluded, because holidays vary by country, region and employer.
What if the end date is before the start date?
The calculator still gives the number of days between them and notes that the order is reversed.
How are leap years handled?
February 29 is counted whenever it falls in the range, following the Gregorian calendar rule.
